Backyard ponds and waterfalls
by Michael O'Brien
Backyard ponds and waterfalls go hand in hand like leaves
on a tree. Just like the leaves on a tree serve to provide it with
essential elements to help it survive, so does the waterfall add to
the overall health and beauty of a pond. There are several important
reasons why this is the case.
Backyard ponds and waterfalls: promoting
health
Backyard ponds and waterfalls are such a natural choice to go together
because of the action of a waterfall. The flowing water helps to oxygenate
the water, thus promoting the health and well being of fish and plant
life in a pond. The action of the flowing water also serves as a natural
filter, keeping the water circulating and clean.
Waterfalls also serve to add a soothing element to a pond
with their tranquil sound. It's best to have a waterfall that is not
too tall. Too strong a torrent of water is not only hard on the fish
and plants, but will be far too loud for the tranquility you are after.
Pre-made perfection
Waterfalls today can be constructed using natural stones of course,
but there are also waterfall molds and kits made of fiberglass that
come preassembled, and can simply be put in place. These pre-molded
artificial rock formations not only look just like natural rocks,
but are sturdier since they come in one piece. They last a nice long
time too.
